Valparaiso, Chile

This is Elise.  We have a spectacular view overlooking the bay and city lights of Valparaiso, Chile.  Finally, we can settle in to a comfortable place.  For some reason we could never get comfortable in Argentina.  We only spent two weeks there, compared to a month in almost every other country.  Being woken up every night in the middle of the night didn't help.  The Argentinians live at night.  They aren't drinking and partying.  They simply do everything at night.  It didn't mesh with us at all.  In our country cottage nestled amongst grape groves and olive trees, there were kids screaming and playing right outside our window at 1:30 am, two nights in a row.  We left for Chile and planned on staying in a town or two along the way but the hotels were all closed.  The signs said "Open All Year" but they weren't.  The mountain scenery on the route to Chile was reminiscent of the Himalayans or Patagonia. Some of the best of the trip.  I am sure Mike will post photos later. As we drove towards to coast the scenery reminded me of the California of my childhood.  Wildflowers all over, avocado groves, and very little traffic.  It was like taking a time machine back 40 years in Southern California.
